Current Geographic Scope: Maritime Life Precious Foundation is working currently in four (4) regions of Ghana as referenced above and has presence in nineteen (19) districts of Ghana ( Seven 7 districts under the PEPFAR Funded USAID Strengthening the Care Continuum Project namely; Sekondi – Takoradi Metro. Effia – Kwesimintsim, Tarkwa- Nsuaem, Prestea-Huni Valley, Wassa Amenfi East, Wassa Amenfi West, and Wassa Amenfi Central municipalities and 12 districts under the Global Fund supported New Funding Module III, NFM III KP Project namely, Kumasi Metro., Oforikrom, Ejisu, Asokore Mampong, Atwima Kwanwoma, Atwima Nwabiagya, Obuasi, Bekwai, Sunyani East, Sunyani West, Berekum, and Techiman)
Maritime Life Precious Foundation (MLPF, / MARITIME) is a non-profit and non- governmental organization legally registered with the Registrar Generals’ Department (Registration ID – G.14. 903 and the Department of Social Welfare, Ghana.
Maritime Life Precious Foundation commenced operations as a legally registered Community-Based Organization in the year 2002 then later on upgraded to the status of a national NGO after registration in February 2005.
Since its inception, MARITIME has been contributing significantly to Ghana’s national HIV response as well as supporting vulnerable groups with interventions to enable vulnerable individuals to live as dignified human beings. Such interventions have included but not limited to Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) Nutrition and Educational support in coastal communities, Health screening outreaches in coastal communities targeting retrenched sailors, fishmongers, and other constituents within fishing communities.
In spite of the myriad misconceptions and hostilities associated with implementing community level programs that seeks to address the health and human right needs of key population particular with regards to HIV/AIDS intervention programs geared towards addressing the epidemic among Key population (KP), especially MSM in Ghana, MLPF has been a solid bulwark in championing the national campaign to ensure the health needs of Key population (MSM) are met.
Maritime Life Precious Foundation (MLPF) is a non-profit and non- governmental organization which was established and registered in February 2005 with registration no.G.14. 903. Since the inception of HIV/AIDS intervention programs geared towards addressing the epidemic among MSMs in Ghana, MLPF has been a solid bulwark in championing the national campaign to ensure the health needs of KPs (MSM) are met. The organization is currently operating in Western region on the USAID Strengthening the Care Continuum project with its headquarters in Takoradi. MLPF is principally involved in HIV prevention programs for MSM and has worked on the frontlines of the HIV and AIDS pandemic since 2005 with internally generated funds and also funding from donor agencies and Government of Ghana.
MLPF is an experienced leader in MSM programming in Ghana having participated in the first USAID funded Academy for Educational Development (AED)/SHARP HIV prevention intervention in Ghana from 2004 through 2009. MLPF’s programs centers on averting new HIV infections amongst MSM through adoption of healthy behaviors, provision of counseling and STI management and linkage to service delivery points. MLPF also pioneered the establishment of the first ever MSM PLHIV support group in Ghana. MLPF provides safe spaces for MSM, delivers peer education and interactive BCC messages and provides information and referrals for STI/HIV/AIDS services.
MLPF has again, implemented almost all USAID MSM intervention project in the nation, these include:- the SHARPER projects from 2010 – 2014, LINKAGES from 2015 – 2016. MLPF has placed itself at a higher pedestal with respect to KP programming in Ghana, hence prides itself as the first MSM LNGO in Ghana to have been awarded direct funding from USAID (PEPFAR) to implement MSM HIV/STI prevention project from 2012 – 2014 (SHAPAMG).
MLPF fairly contributed in the successful implementation of the GLOBAL FUND MSM intervention component of the national HIV response as a sub – sub recipient through WAPCAS and the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) as the principal recipient from 2010 – 2015. MLPF has also implemented 2 year extension of the GLOBAL FUND/GAC New Funding Module (NFM) MSM project (2015 – 2017).
